I'm a reporter for WGN-TV in Chicago, Illinois. I was previously an investigative reporter at WITI-FOX6 News in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I'm also an attorney, licensed to practice in Illinois. Home is Chicago, by way of small-town Indiana.

 

I specialize in investigative reporting, crime reporting, legal reporting, backgrounding on deadline, data journalism, and open records requests. I started out as a one-man-band in Rockford, Illinois, covering the crime beat. I am a frequent guest speaker at Medill and DePaul, teaching students about how to think visually when producing investigative stories for TV.

 

I've won numerous awards for my investigative work.  In 2015 I was an IRE Award Finalist.
